In another life, the founder of Global Village Learning, Frank J. Heller,
founded a popular whole grain bakery after coming to Maine. It was opening in
1977 in a location on the Bath Road, Brunswick, and a year later, moved into the
TONTINE MALL. It was sold in the Fall of 1982, but remains in the consciousness
of it's many customers as the "best" Bakery in Maine (Boston Phoenix,
1980). There are customers who vividly remember their 'natural' wedding cake to
this day, and others whose memory extends to other unique products as well and
'first time' events like the first Maine Festival and Common Ground Fair, or
deliveries of fresh, warm bread to MidCoast food coop breakdowns. Mr. Heller has returned to offering breadmaking classes, to selling and promoting wood/gas fired bread ovens, to promoting WHEAT Montana's fabled flour, and eventually to restoring his SAMAP flour mill for the finest in whole wheat flour. |
