After two years without the annual
pre-vacation festival, the Winter Carnival at BRHS returned in 1998 better
than ever. Encompassing the entire week before winter break, students and
faculty competed to show their school spirit in an arena other than
athletics.
Organized by the Student Council, each day had a
designated theme that could be celebrated by dressing accordingly. Among
the five days were: "Hawaiian Day," "Twelve Days of Christmas Day" and
"Red and Green Day." With the enthusiastic cooperation of many students
and the majority of the faculty, the theme days proved to be quite
entertaining!
At the end of the week-long celebration was a day of
festivities that pitted the faculty and classes against each other in a
variety of competitions. Due to the lack of snow, outdoor competitions
could not take place, but the indoor activities were still enjoyed by all.
After tallying the performance of the classes during the competitions, the
Senior class ended up winning the overall event.
The Winter
Carnival Dance, held at the local Teen Center, also took place on the last
day of the week before vacation. A huge success, the dance began with
music provided by a D.J., followed by a live band consisting mainly of
local high school students.
Hopefully, with the enthusiasm of
future students, the Winter Carnival will remain a tradition at the high
school as a time for celebration of school spirit, the holiday season and
the pending excitement of winter break!
