5.........The Web page has a clear purpose and
target audience
3 ........The Web page has a clear purpose, but
lacks a target audience; or, the Web
page is aimed at a general audience,
but lacks a clear purpose.
1.........The Web page has neither a clear
purpose nor a target audience.
Score Attribute: Content
5.........The content is accurate, updated,
annotated with sources of information
and has an authorship statement or
sponsorship statement and date of
publication.
3.........The Web page appears to be accurate,
but is not current or lacks a
statement of authorship or
sponsorship.
1.........The Web page has clear errors of fact
and/or misrepresentations
Score Attribute: Writing
5..........The writing is clear and grammatically
correct with correct spelling and
punctuation
3.........The writing is clear, but there are
grammatical, spelling, or punctuation
errors.
1.........The writing is unclear and not easily
understood. Spelling, punctuation, or
grammatical errors really detract from
the page.
Organization/Structure
Score Attribute: Format
5......... The page has a clear format with
headings and/or labels which make the
page easy to follow. The content is
organized into an introduction, body,
and closing.
3......... The format gives mixed messages. There
are some headings, but the structure
is loose.
1.......... The page lacks a clear format and
lacks headings or labels making it
difficult to follow
Score Attribute: Navigation
5......... The navigational aids make it easy to
progress through the site. If a theme
is present, it is used consistently.
3......... There are few navigational aids and it
is challenging to locate information.
1........... There are no navigational aids and
information cannot be located.
Score Attribute: Links
5......... It has links to at least two other
sites and an email link for
suggestions. There is a search
function for a large site with complex
organizational structure.
3......... There is one link to another site, but
the page lacks an email link. For a
large site, the search engine is
missing.
1......... There are no links, no email link, and
no search functions.
Appearance/Design
Score Attribute: Colors/Background
5......... The colors of the background and text,
if used, contribute to the theme of
the site and have enough contrast to
be easily readable.
3......... The colors in the background and font
are reasonable clear, but detract from
the page by presenting unnecessary
clutter.
1......... The background and colors make the
page very difficult to read.
Score Attribute: Fonts
5 ......... The fonts are easy to read, and are
sized proportionately for headings and
text, without being excessively large.
3.......... The fonts are easy to read, but are
too large or too small for the page.
1......... The fonts are not easy to read.
Score Attribute: Graphics
5......... The page has graphics/images that add
to the content and do not clutter the
page. The size of the graphics and the
overall file size of the page conform
to current standards.
3.......... The graphics add to the content of the
page, but are too large and therefore
load too slowly.
1.......... The graphics are merely clutter and
don't contribute to the theme of the
page.
Function
Score Attribute: HTML Code
5.......... The HTML coding is accurate to allow
links, forms, tables, or other
features to work. "ALT" tags are used
for images and the page is
understandable without the images.
3.......... Most HTML is correct, but alt tags for
images are missing.
1......... Links, forms, and tables do not work
exactly as intended. Missing graphics
leave the page with holes.
Score Attribute: Loading
5........... The page loads correctly irrespective
of the browser used: i.e. Netscape or
Internet Explorer versions in popular
use.
3......... The page will load in either Netscape
or I.E., but does not work in the
other browser or in a lower version of
the browser in popular use.
1......... The page does not load correctly in
either Netscape or IE versions in
popular use.
Score Attribute: Special Effects
5......... Frames, animation, audio, video and
other special effects, if used,
contribute, rather than detract, from
the page.
3......... Frames, animation, audio, video, etc.
work, but detract from the page due to
overuse or clutter.
1......... Special effects were attempted, but do
not work and therefore detract from
the page.
