Comments Snowshoes were required, crampons were not, poles helpful. Usual winter wind protection from the wind above tree line.

Trail conditions: In the trees the snow was a good two feet, most snow had been blown off the rocks above tree line. THANK YOU to those who broke this trail out the day before. We probably would not have made it if we had to break trail the entire way. The trails were in good shape with only a handful of leaning trees. Wore snowshoes the entire way, although could have removed them above tree line. As the trails had just been broken, it was excellent snowshoe conditions.

Again, a thank-you to those who broke trail the day before, from West Bond we saw five of you making your way to Bond Cliff. The four of us started out from Zealand Hut and returned for a 14 mile round trip hike. Got back to the hut in plenty of time to eat with the Maine Chapter group we came in with and to enjoy their company and the ambiance of the hut. There were minor squalls but the winds above tree line were ok. Great day, great company and four 4,000 footers, in winter, in a day – what more could you want!
