| Location | Albany Mountain, WMNF - Route 5 South of Bethel, ME |

| Comments | The guide book could be updated regarding access to the trailhead. The parking area is quite obvious at the mileage indicated and the trail sign is visible although it is indeed at the back of the clearing near the information kiosk. An alternate access requiring far less travel on rough gravel roads can be made via Rte. 5 about 1.5 miles north of the junction where Rte. 35 splits and just south of Songo Pond. See Delorme map 10. Don't forget your WMNF Parking Permit!!!! |

Albany Notch and Albany Mountain trails were in great shape. I can only imagine the views from the ledges as the summit was completely socked in. My Gore-Tex got a real work-out! Will definitely be back for another try in good weather though. This would be a good hike for families, about 4.5 miles in length, not too steep, but steady climb and passing two beaver ponds. The first one about 1/4 mile from the trailhead has flooded the trail and the overgrown vegetation makes the crossing quite tricky.
