Left Bog Brook Rd on 5/27/00 and hike 15.9 miles to Pierce Pond Lean-to. The trails were in great shape. The maintainers are doing there job well on this section of the AT. Stopped at West Carry Pond Lean-to for lunch. This lean-to is well maintained and in a nice location about 100 yards from the pond but the privy is a little to full and needs to be relocated. There is also a nice sandy beach not to far from the lean-to that would be a nice place to take a swim later in the summer. We also passed East Carry Pond which also had a nice sandy beach that would be good for swimming later in the summer. Continued on to our destination for the night Pierce Pond Lean-to. This lean-to is at a awesome location. It is about 50 feet from the pond. Once the sun went down the loons started there calling. It was nice to fall asleep to there music. Only downfall to this lean-to was that when people visit it they leave there trash behind. We picked up enough trash to fill half of a 55 gallon trash bag and my buddy strapped it to his backpack and carried it out.

Left Piece Pond on 5/28/00 and continued on to Caratunk only 3.7 miles. We passed three sets of water falls. It was well worth the side trail visits to go and see them. It made the whole trip worth while. Highly recommend going to see these. Once we got to the Kennebec River we only had to wait five minutes for the canoe to get to our side and shuttle use across. Great service and many thanks to Rivers and Trails for there help doing the ferry service. The whole trip was a nice hike with no mountains to climb just some hills but it was a real easy hike. I will most definitely do this hike again sometime in the future.
