Started out on the trail at 9:00 AM and headed up towards North Baldface. There are several large trees down between the trail head and Emerald Pool. There was about 1 to 2 inches of very hard crusty snow on the ground bordering on being ice. Very slippery even on the flats. Because of the trail conditions we decided to avoid the Baldafce Circle Trail and it's large expanse of exposed rock wich we anticipated to be mostly ice. Both stream crossings are frozen mostly solid and can be crossed safely. It took us two hours to get to the junction with the Eagle Cascade Link Trail, another hour to get to the Baldface Circle Trail and another hour and 45 minutes to reach the summit of North Baldface. Very icy the whole way. It was a perfect day to be climbing. 20 degrees on top and absolutely no wind and not a cloud in the sky. Excellent views of Mt. Washington to Keazer Lake. After a few minutes of basking in the sun we headed down. Three hours and more than a little but sliding, later we were back to our cars. On the hike were Bryan Courtois, Janet Myers, Mitch Sanborn and Amanda Russo.
