Our hike started at 9:30am from the parking lot at the DOC lodge on
Ravine Road (off Route 118). The weather was overcast, cool & breezy with
intermittent rain and snow. We took the Gorge Brook Trail all the way to the top,
reaching the summit just past noon. There was an increasing amount of snow cover on
the way up, about 6 inches deep at the 4000 foot level. There were drifts just below
the summit that went above our knees. The deeper snow cover was easily negotiated by
walking around or over the rocks. We descended via the Carriage Road & Snapper
Trails, which are very wide trails and an easy grade all the way down. We made it
back to the trailhead just past 2pm, and saw only 2 other people all day - they had just
started up the Snapper Trail.
