Tales of Guiding: Near and Far

The Maine Chapter's Potluck and Presentations Series begins Thursday, November 18 with a presentation by Polly Mahoney of the Mahoosuc Guide Service.  Polly is a professional year long guide who has traveled extensively in the north with the Cree and Inuit. She is equally comfortable poling a canoe up the Allagash or driving a dog team across the sea ice of Hudson Bay. Drawing on years spent traveling and working at hunting camps in the Yukon and leading canoe and sled dog excursions in Maine and Canada, PollyÕs stories and pictures will speak to the intrinsic value of wilderness experiences as well as her philosophy of guiding; to respect and accept the wilderness: not to compete against it. Polly and her partner Kevin, make much of their own equipment including cedar canvas canoes, ash dog sleds and maple paddles.

The Mahoosuc Guide Service has been featured in write ups in Downeast, National Geographic Explorers Journal, and PBS Made in Maine. As a special treat Polly will be accompanied by two of her sled dogs.

When: Thursday, November 18 . Potluck at 6:30 (bring a deli item or something from home to share )  Presentation at 7:30.

Where: Falmouth American Legion Post #164, 65 Depot Rd (Across from library) Falmouth.
