HARVEST SCHEDULE
Goranson Farm begins the season with the harvest of baby red-skinned potatoes for the Fourth of July. We harvest potatoes for winter keeping into mid-October. Available are assorted sizes, U.S. No. 1 potatoes, with a minimum 2-1/2" diameter. Also available are our hand-select, baking size.

VARIETIES
We grow the following potato varieties, all noted for their special qualities:

  • Reds: Moist, great for salads, soups and homefries.
  • Kennebec: Good all-purpose potato, bake or boil.
  • Yukon Gold: Gold flesh, good all-purpose; great for roasting.
  • Russet: Dry, great for baking, good for boiling and for stuffed potato skins.
  • Green Mountain: Very dry, great for baking, good mashed, do not over-boil.
  • Russian Banana Fingerlings: Long, thin fingerlike potato, smaller than "normal" varieties; yellow flesh and waxy texture that make them great for roasting and home-fries; real treat: flavorful, moist, think-skinned, and easy to prepare; are very popular with fine restaurants.

Potato orders should be placed well in advance for pick-up of our select size; call or e-mail us. If you'd like to have potatoes shipped, call or e-mail us for rates.

WINTER STORAGE OF POTATOES
Potatoes keep best in cool, moist conditions. Optimal temperature is 40 degrees F. for very long-term storage, although 45-50 degrees is adequate for several months.
