Greetings on this beautiful Saturday morning (July 5th)!
Please see the photo of our 4th of July Down East Fair prize
winning float! We all decided that we only wanted to be judged on
"Judgment Day", however our Church won the Judge's 2nd Place
Trophy next only to Sue Olson's beautiful Island Connections', "Let
Freedom Ring" float which was the first place winner. Our lovely Ruth
Hodgkins was Betsy Ross assisted by Carol Johnston. The Craighead
family had a wonderful float celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Mount
Desert Campground. We keep it in the church family!! Gail Leland and I had lots of fun and
laughs planning our float. One man told us we had the most
"spirit" in the parade!! Gail and I wish to thank Tedd
Higgins and Acadia Construction for the loan of the truck, trailer, and driver;
Jack Walls for the loan of "Jed" and Miss Liberty; Liz
McMullan for the beautiful flowers; Lynn & Brad Thompson & friend,
Neil, & Jim and Barbara Kelly for all the tech support; Chris Buzzell
& Tony Sousa for building the float and of course our "other"
music man, Kaveh Haghkerdar for the spirited music which made our float
come alive. Bless you all! Someone said to us the other day that we are, "A little church with a big ambition." We certainly saw that yesterday on the 4th of July. First of all, our own Sharon Malm, Events Coordinator, for Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, planned the whole 4th of July parade which ran as smoothly as ever. If you went over to the Rotary Pancake Breakfast you would find Bob and Elaine Theriault, Jim Kitler, Gina and Pam Farnsworth working on the breakfast. Tony, the Kellys, and I went for lobster at the Rotary Seafood Festival where we found Fr. Bob Raymond husking our corn, Bernie Staples cooking our lobsters, and Fran helping out! Over at the Garden Club Pie Booth we noted Church of Our Father pies from various members. Jan Meryweather works mightily for this project. We saw Leigh Beatty working away in the Bar Harbor Food Pantry Booth. Over at the Island Connections Booth, Sue Olson was drawing off the winning tickets for two lovely paintings assisted by Sara Elena Hoehlein and Valeria. Fr. Chuck & Wendy were in the Hancock County Medical Mission to Ecuador Booth and Jane Adams was working on a Camp Beech Cliff project in their booth. Hope we didn't miss anyone!
