Newly revealed Atlantic salmon, river herring, American eel and sea lamprey habitat in Seven Mile Stream, just above the Kennebec River in Vassalboro. This reach was ponded, deep and still when the Edwards Dam was in place. Now it is a rushing stream that has cleaned itself down to boulder and cobbles. A number of large ponds, Webber, Three Mile, Spectacle and Three-Cornered, feed Seven Mile Stream. Beginning in the late 1990s, sea-run alewives were reintroducted to several of these ponds. In several springs, the stream reach above will be filled with hundreds of thousands of adult alewives, fresh from the sea, heading back to spawn in their native birthplace.
