"How long shall they kill our prophets while we stand
aside and look?" -- Robert Nesta Marley, 1979

Two weeks
ago, this was a pregnant, female American eel swimming to the Atlantic Ocean
to give birth.
On Monday, October 18, 2004 State of Maine officials
ceded ownership of the entire 1,000 square mile Sebasticook River watershed
to the Arcadia Energy Corporation of Atlanta, Georgia. Arcadia is the owner
of the Benton Falls Dam on the Sebasticook River in Benton, Maine which
has been mercilessly slaughtering female eels in their turbines for the
past 3 weeks.
State of Maine officials ceded the Sebasticook River to
Arcadia Energy on October 18 by telling Arcadia it is perfectly legal for
the Benton Falls Dam to continue killing every female American eel which
tries to migrate past the dam to give birth in the Atlantic Ocean.
On
October 18, 2004 the State of Maine requested the Benton Falls dam owner,
Arcadia Energy, voluntarily shut off their turbines during the evening hours
to stop the ongoing slaughter of American eels, which migrate only at night.
Arcadia Energy has refused to do so.
As of October 28, 2004 the turbines
of the Benton Falls Dam are still slaughtering female eels each and every
night during their fall migration.
