PHOTO IMPRESSIONS

by Don Pryor

Photography became a part of my life at age 11 when I   borrowed my parent's box brownie and started taking pictures.  Now some 62 years later I am still taking pictures and the thrill of it is still with me.

What began as a hobby, manifested itself into a career of both commercial-industrial and portrait-wedding photography spanning some 32 years. The industrial-commercial phase took place in California’s Silicon Valley and the portrait-wedding phase took place here in Waterville and Winslow, Maine. Up until I retired in 1991, my dear wife, Marlene, and I operated a Studio first in Waterville and later in Winslow. During those 17 years we had the privilege of photographing thousands of people for their high school senior portraits, weddings, and family groups.

But I must admit that my real passion in doing photography is making photographs of the pictorial nature, both landscapes and still life subjects. It excites me to come upon a scene, to capture it with my camera, and finally share with others what my mind’s eye found so appealing.

The digital photographic medium has opened up a whole new world for me. With my camera, computer, and printer, I can within hours come up with a finished print of the subject I just photographed. It gives me the control of how I want the finished print to look like. The equipment and the technical advancements are getting better every day. I truly believe this is the future of photography.

All of the photographs displayed at this web site were done digitally and within the last three years. Plus, I have not traveled more than 20 miles from my home in Benton to find these subjects. It is my pleasure to share them with you. Don Pryor
