Geophysical Science Vocabulary List
Vocabulary List: Science is a language all by itself. It is important that students build a science vocabulary in order to make many of the connections between one science subject and another. Even as the study of mathematics builds upon skills that are learned and then applied to more complex problems, so does the discipline and study of science depend upon the building and using of a good science vocabulary.
Vocabulary Program: New science words will be added to the vocabulary list each week. Students are responsible for learning the word and its correct spelling and then knowing the definition and scientific use of that word. The vocabulary list for each week will be a homework assignment. Students are to look up and write down the definition of the words, then they are to use the words in a sentence that demonstrates understanding of the word. Students will be responsible for being able to recall and use this vocabulary list for the entire year! These words will be on tests throughout the entire school year. It is the only way to insure that students are building their science memories. Words will be listed here by the date in which they were posted in the classroom. They are not in alphabetical order.
